Cleveland, Ohio - Duquesne University's baaseball team saw its seven-game winning streak come to a halt Tuesday night as the Cleveland State Vikings held off a late DU rally for a 6-5 victory at the Cleveland Indians' Jacobs Field. Sophomore Aaron Janusey's home run in the third, his ninth of the season, was the 12th one hit in the MLB park by a Division I player.
Janusey and senior Steve Maiolo each had two hits and one RBI. Janusey also scored twice.
Duquesne scored three in the first and one in the third, via Janusey's round tripper, to take a 4-2 lead over the Horizon League program. Cleveland State made the most of their four hits in the fourth; they scored four runs and grabbed their first lead, 6-4.
The Vikings (9-34) allowed four hits over Duquesne's next four innings but kept the Red and Blue off the scoreboard until DU's final at-bat in the ninth. Junior Alex Sharick and freshman Brian Bernardo singled. With two outs, senior Steve Maiolo singled in Sharrick and moved Bernardo to third base. Stephen Procner struck out the final DU batter to preserve the win.
