Box Score

Green Tree, Pa. - Duquesne University's baseball team, behind another complete game from senior Scott Chisholm, topped the Charlotte 49ers, 3-2, Friday afternoon at Duquesne Field. The Red and Blue have now won seven straight Atlantic 10 Conference contests and nine of their last 10 games overall.

The Dukes did their damage on five hits and three walks. They were aided by the Niners' five errors; two of the three runs were unearned.

Duquesne put up single runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings. In the opening frame, junior Joe Berletic scored on sophomore Aaron Janusey's infield ground-out. Redshirt sophomore Derek Mechling, the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week and a recent ESPN The Magazine All-Academic District II first teamer, scored on an error by the Charlotte catcher.

The 49ers scored twice in the sixth as Mike Ambrose drove in their first and scored the Niners' second run. Duquesne responded in their half of the inning, scoring the winning run via redshirt freshman Mike Carroll's single that drove in Berletic.

Chisholm gave up just one hit in the last three frames, including a 1-2-3 performance in the ninth, to keep Charlotte from getting back into the game.

Duquesne (18-30) evened their league mark to 11-11. The Dukes, who were tied for seventh place with Richmond, are now in sole possession of that spot as the Spiders suffered a 5-4 loss to GW Thursday,

The 49ers are 13-9 in A-10 play and 29-18-1 overall. They entered the weekend tied with Saint Louis for fourth place,

The teams resume their three-game weekend series on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. on Duquesne Field in the Pittsburgh suburbs.
