Dukes Drop Opener at South Carolina

Columbia, S.C. - Duquesne University's baseball team dropped their season opener to nationally ranked South Carolina, 15-0, Friday afternoon at Sarge Frye Field in Columbia. USC entered the game ranked as the number 13 team in the nation.

The Gamecocks had the game in hand after racing to a 7-0 lead in the first two innings. Cheyne Hurst and Robbie Grinestaff each powered home runs in the first contest of this three-game weekend series.

The Dukes were limited to three hits by six South Carolina pitchers. Dan Luszak (1-0) pitched hitless fourth and fifth innings and was awarded the win. Senior Adam Haun (Polk, PA / Franklin) was charged with the loss.

The Dukes will match up against USC Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Senior Scott Chisholm (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) is slated to start tomorrow with sophomore Jeremy Gerger (Madison, OH / Madison) penned in for the series closer.
