DU's Candace Futrell Re-Signs with WNBA's Sun

Duquesne University's Candace Futrell (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) has re-signed with the WNBA's Connecticut Sun as a free agent for the 2006 season. Futrell, a 2004 graduate, was a third-round draft pick by the Sun in 2004 and appeared in 20 games averaging seven minutes of play for Connecticut. She was waived by the Sun in May of 2005 after undergoing surgery to repair an injury to her right ankle she suffered while playing in Israel during the off-season.

The 2004 Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Year was a four-year starter for the Dukes and three-time All-Conference pick. Futrell ranks second for the Dukes' with 1,668 points; 15.4 points per game average and with 183 career three-point goals made. She averaged 21.4 ppg as a senior leading the Dukes to a10-6 Atlantic 10 record, which tied the University mark for Conference wins in a season. The team went 16-13 overall.

A reserve guard, she was signed to a one-year contract. She is the second Duquesne Duke to play in the WNBA. Korie Hlede, as 1998 graduate, was a first-round draft pick with the Detroit Shock - fourth overall.
