Game Time

Duquesne closes out a seven-day road stand Friday evening facing the Mountaineers of West Virginia. DU is coming off a 55-43 loss at Akron this past Tuesday while WVU opened Big East play falling to No. 24 Marquette 74-50 Wednesday night. The Dukes will have a six-game home series beginning December 22 until January 18.

The Coaches

Duquesne's Dan Durkin is in his 14th season at the helm of the Duquesne women's basketball program and as a head coach. He posts a 174-201 career mark. Durkin is a 1975 graduate of Mount St. Mary's.

West Virginia's Mike Carey is in his sixth season at the Mountaineer's helm and the 19th as a head coach. He is 91-71 with WVU and 379-170 as a head coach. He is a 1980 graduate of Salem.

The Series

Tonight marks the 38th meeting between Duquesne and West Virginia. The Mountaineers hold a 30-7 lead in the all-time series which dates back to the 1976-77 season. Last year, Duquesne fell 71-66 to the Mountaineers at the Palumbo Center. The Dukes were last victorious December of 1995 when DU snagged an 89-69 decision. The Dukes are 1-16 at WVU.

Dukes Lately

The Dukes are coming off a 55-43 loss at Akron Tuesday ... DU captured the Cornell Classic title last weekend taking Radford 70-62 in the opening day's action and defeated Morgan State 70-42 in the title match-up ... DU is now 5-4 overall going into tonight's contest ... three Dukes average double figure scoring in seniors Loui Hall (12.3) and Carmen Bruce (10.2) and freshman Keri Pryor (10.7) ... Hall leads the rebounding with 7.8 per game ... Kristi Little owns a team-best 31 assists and 24 steals ... the Cornell Classic title is the first in-season tournament win for the Dukes since the 1998-99 UMBC Tournament when DU defeated Morgan State and Bucknell.

West Virginia Lately

West Virginia stands 5-4 overall after falling to No. 24 Marquette (AP) 74-50 in the Big East opener Dec. 6. The Mountaineers have three players averaging double figures in Olayinka Sanni (11.9), LaQuinta Owens (11.4) and Chakhia Cole (10.0). Sanni leads WVU with 7.7 rebounds per game and is tied with Owens with a team-leading 21 steals. The Mountaineers return all five starters and seven letterwinners from last season's 15-16 squad.

A Morgantown Homecoming for Peck and Pryor

The Dec. 8 game will be a homecoming for freshmen Keri Pryor and Amanda Peck who both graduated from Morgantown High School. The date also marks Pryor's 19th birthday.

DU and WVU - Two of the top defensive teams

West Virginia and Duquesne are both ranked in the top 25 among NCAA Division I schools in scoring defense. In the first report of the 2006-07 season, the Mountaineers stand 20th allowing just 53.1 points per game while the Dukes rank 23rd limiting the opponent to just 53.9 points per game.
