Duquesne University baseball coach Mike Wilson recently announced the signings of four players for the 2008 season. Grant Gillespie (Denver, CO/Regis Jesuit) and Christopher Kimmeth (Greenwood Village, CO/Regis Jesuit) from Colorado as well as local players Andrew Heck (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) and Joseph Lombardo (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler Area) will enroll at Duquesne next fall.
Gillespie was a second team All-Conference outfielder as a junior, leading the team with a .450 batting average.
Kimmeth is a three-year varsity letterman in both baseball and basketball. In 2006 spring and summer games, he combined to hit .381 with 11 home runs in 61 games.
Heck is a three-year team captain, first team All-Section choice and 2006 Post-Gazette All-Star. He is a three-year letterman in baseball and football and was named All-Conference twice in football.
Lombardo is a starter at shortstop for Shaler High. He has also played American Legion baseball, participated in the Keystone Games and played fall ball for the Allegheny Pirates.
The Dukes open the 2007 season on Friday, Feb. 23 as they travel to Georgia Tech for a three-game series.
