Pittsburgh, PA - A solid second-half effort lifted the Lake Truck women's basketball squad to a 78-73 victory over Duquesne in an exhibition contest Tuesday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center. Duquesne held a 44-35 margin at the break, but was out-scored 43-29 in the second stanza. Senior Loui Hall led the Dukes with 16 points followed by freshman Keri Pryor who notched all 15 of her points in the second frame. Also hitting double figures for the Dukes were sophomore Kristi Little with 13 and junior Jade Singleton with 10 markers. Singleton and senior Brittany Warren led the Dukes with four rebounds each. Little led the game with three steals.
Lake Truck (2-0) was led by Virginia graduate Brandi Teamer who racked up 25 points on 10-21 shooting from the field. She also led the game with 12 rebounds - nine of which were on offense. Tennessee's Brittany Jackson was second with 14 points while Columbia grad Susan Altman added 11 points.
The Dukes used an 11-0 run, which included three treys, to take an 18-11 lead with 13:37 on the clock in the first frame. Lake Truck would go 3:33 without a basket before De De Warley's lay-up sparked an 11-6 LT run which would cut the Duquesne lead to 24-22 with 8:54 remaining. Altman's made free throws got the visitor to within a 27-26 reach at 7:23 before the Red & Blue sprang to a 12-3 scoring drive led by Little's six markers for a 39-29 advantage - the largest of the game. Hall's lay-up with :48 ticking put the Dukes up 41-33 before Little launched a three-pointer with :06 to go for a 44-35 half-time lead.
The Dukes shot .481 (13-27) from the field and .556 (5-9) from the arc in the first half while Lake Truck went .448 (13-29) from the field and .429 (3-9) from the three. Lake Truck held an 18-13 rebounding edge in the first frame.
Lake Truck opened the second stanza with six unanswered and would use an 11-2 run to knot the game at 46-46 with just 3:08 off the clock. Pryor's three-pointer at 16:33 regained the Dukes' lead at 49-46 and she would go on to score 12 of the Dukes' first 15 points of the half which ended with a lay-up at 12:08 for a 58-53 Duquesne advantage. Lake Truck hit seven unanswered to take a 60-58 edge - their first lead since holding an 11-10 edge in the first half. Four ties and six lead changes would follow before Teamer hit six of her team's 8-0 run for a 74-69 lead with 2:07 ticking. Warren hit a lay-up with 1:01 on the clock for a 74-71 reach, but the Dukes would send Altman and Jackson to the line who each hit both shots of the bonus for a 78-71 edge with just :23 to go. Little would end the game's scoring on a lay-up in the final second for the 78-73 final.
Rebounding would be a key factor in the second half which saw Lake Truck grab 30 boards to the Dukes' 12 in just the second frame. LT out-rebounded Duquesne 48-25 for the game, which included 17 offensive grabs. Lake Truck out-shot the Dukes .466 (27-58) to .403 (25-62) from the field and .769 (20-26) to .696 (16-23) from the line.
Duquesne opens its regular season on Nov. 14 hosting Saint Francis (PA) in a 7:00 pm tip off at the Palumbo Center.
