Oct. 13, 2006

Box Score

Duquesne's men's soccer team made it three straight wins with a 2-1 triumph over visiting Dayton, Friday evening on Rooney Field. Senior Tom Sochacki and sophomore Bryan Matthews provided the goals. The win improved the Dukes to 8-4-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the Atlantic 10 while Dayton fell to 4-8-0, 0-4-0.

The Dukes lit the scoreboard first in the 23rd minute as Socahcki took a pass from freshman Alex Trujillo and senior goalkeeper Zach Varga to take the early lead.

Dayton however tied things up in the 36th minute as Florian DeCamps scored from Gary Long to even the score at the half.

Duquesne rebounded though as Matthews tickled the twine on an entry from junior Travis MacKenzie and sophomore Evan Browne to take the lead for good.

The aggressive Dukes were called for seven offsides to Dayton's one and were charged with 15 fouls to UD's 12.

Varga made three saves for the Red and Blue.

The Dukes return to action on Sunday, Oct. 15 as they host Xavier at 1:00 pm on Rooney Field on Senior Day.
