Duquesne University's women's soccer team lost a tough 1-0 decision to first-place Dayton Friday night at the Flyers Baujan Field. The loss evened the Dukes Atlantic 10 Conference record to 2-2 and halted their two-game winning streak.
Dara Elk scored the only goal of the game at 40:10 of the first half. She charged to the box and hit the right inside corner of the net, away from the out-streched Duquesne goalie, senior Ginny Bondi. Bondi made 11 saves to keep the Dukes in the game till the final whistle.
Juniors Audra Mathews and Faye Rasmussen led the Red and Blue offense with 4 shots each, half of them headed to the goal. Freshman Christine Murawski had DU's other shot on goal as UD's keepers, Tasha Dittamore (1st half) and Stacey Chew (2nd half), recorded five saves. The Flyers outshot Duquesne, 18-11.
Dayton, which has now won five straight, has a league-best 4-0 record and is 6-3-3 overall.
Duquesne (3-7-1 overall) next takes on Xavier on Sunday, October 15, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. The Musketeers (6-8, 1-3 A-10) topped Saint Louis, 4-3, tonight.
