Buffalo Takes Duquesne, 3-1, At WVU Classic

Morgantown, W.Va. - Duquesne's volleyball squad dropped their final contest Saturday night at the West Virginia Classic to Buffalo, 3-1, at the WVU Coliseum. Game scores were 30-28, 19-30, 39-37 and 30-24.

Junior Amanda Haeg (New Prague, Minn. / New Prague) led Duquesne (7-5) with 17 kills while senior Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) added 15 kills and saved 10 digs. Freshman Laura Kastein (Huntsville, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) had a team-best 17 digs. Sophomore Kristin Garnett (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) assisted on a game-best 55 points while saving 14 digs.

Garnett averaged 12.5 sets per game in 13 games. Wuebker, who was named to the Wext Virginia Classic All-Tournament Team, averaged a double-double at this three-match event with 15.3 kills and 13.7 digs. This is the fourth straight tournament where Wuebker has been named to the All-Tournament Team.

Duquesne lost game one by two points (30-28) then fought back in the next contest for an 11-point win (30-19). The third game was an old-school battle as the Bulls emerged with an extra-time 39-37 win. UB held off the Dukes in the fourth game, 30-24, to capture their second win this weekend which raised Buffalo's 2005 mark to 7-5.

Also in double figures for the Dukes were sophomore Dana McLaughlin (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) with 12 kills and 14 digs, freshman Mandy Humphrey's (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) 10 digs and 11 digs by senior Karisa Decker (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny).

Buffalo was led by Nikki Morzenti's 24 kills, Lizaiha Garcia's 20 digs and Amy Brown's 53 sets.

In the final game of the tournament, WVU topped Memphis, 3-0 (30-21. 30-22. 30-27).

Next week the Dukes open the Atlantic 10 schedule in Philadelphia, Pa. DU will take on La Salle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23rd followed by a 4:00 p.m. match at Temple on Saturday, September 24th.
