Washington, D.C. – For the sixth time this season, Duquesne volleyball freshman right side
Simone Searles has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday. Her six weekly honors tie the program record for the most Rookie of the Week awards in a single season.
Searles averaged 3.79 points, 3.21 kills, 2.43 digs and 1.14 blocks per set across three matches, totaling 45 kills, 34 digs and eight total blocks for the Dukes.
She opened the week by recording her ninth double-double of the season, tallying 22 kills and 16 digs while hitting .388 in a 3-2 reverse-sweep victory over Dayton. She also added four blocks in the win. Searles followed with 10 kills, nine digs and two blocks at Davidson on Saturday before closing the weekend with 13 kills, nine digs and two blocks against the Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.
The George native continues to rank among the Atlantic 10's most productive and efficient attackers. She is averaging 3.64 kills and 4.16 points per set, both of which rank third in the conference.
Among NCAA Division I freshmen, Searles ranks second nationally in total points (408) and third in total kills (357). Her 4.16 points per set rank eighth among freshmen, while her 3.64 kills per set rank ninth.
With her sixth Rookie of the Week honor, Searles ties current teammate
Chloe Wilmot for the program record. Wilmot earned six weekly awards during the 2023 season.
