Dukes Lose Opener At Dayton, 6-2

May 7, 2005

Box Score

Dayton, Ohio - There was a celebration before the Duquesne and Dayton baseball teams took the field Saturday as UD officially dedicated their brand new Time Warner Cable Stadium. This was a sign of things to come.

The Flyers topped the Dukes, 6-2, in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader. UD controlled the game, scoring six unanswered runs before Duquesne hit the scoreboard in their final at-bat.

Sophomore Joe Berletic opened the seventh with a triple and scored the Dukes' first run when freshman Bill Torre's grounder to short was bobbled by UD shortstop Michael Mass. Redshirt freshman's Joe Kaye's one-out double drove in Torre putting the score at 6-2. Craig Stammen, who pitched a complete game to even his record to 6-6, disposed of the final two DU batters, clinching the win.

The two teams hit the field in the second game of this twin bill at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
