Steve Maiolo Named to Academic All-District Team

Duquesne University junior baseball player Steve Maiolo (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Team as voted on by the district's sports information directors.

Maiolo, a Secondary Education/Citizenship major with a 3.95 grade point average will now be on the national ballot. Maiolo leads the Dukes with a .326 batting average and also leads the team with 26 RBI and 14 doubles. The starting shortstop in all 45 games, he is second on the team with 28 runs scored and has stolen six bases as well.

To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. He must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution.

Sports information directors nominate eligible athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted upon on the national level. District II covers Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
