Duquesne University freshman second baseman Nolan Pena (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Archbishop Carroll - Miami, FL) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference's Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
Pena helped lead the Dukes to a three-game sweep of visiting Xavier over the weekend catapulting the Red and Blue to second place in the Atlantic 10 West standings. Pena batted .500 for the week (9-18) while scoring a team-best six runs and driving in four. He had four doubles, a triple and two stolen bases as well.
This marks the Dukes' fourth A-10 honor of the season as freshman Bill Torre (South Park, PA/South Park) was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on March 14, junior Steve Maiolo (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) was named Co-Player of the Week on March 21 and freshman Eric Morrison (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on April 11.
Duquesne (12-18) returns to action on Tuesday, April 19 as the Dukes travel to Kent State for a 3:00 pm contest before hosting Ohio on Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
