Duquesne University freshman outfielder Eric Morrison (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference's Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
Morrison helped the Dukes go 4-1 last week by batting .458 (11-24) with seven runs scored, six RBI, five doubles and two stolen bases. He had at least two hits in all five games and accounted for five of Duquesne's six runs in a 6-5 defeat of Massachusetts on April 9. Morrison improved his batting average to .319 for the season (29-91) which is good for second best on the team. He also leads the team with six stolen bases, two home runs and eight doubles and is second with 14 RBI.
This marks the Dukes' third A-10 honor of the season as freshman Bill Torre (South Park, PA/South Park) was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on March 14 and junior Steve Maiolo (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) was named Co-Player of the Week on March 21.
Duquesne (9-16) returns to action on Tuesday, April 12 as the Dukes host West Virginia (14-19) at 3:00 pm at Duquesne Field before hosting Pitt (15-13) on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at PNC Park.
