Box Score
Charelotte, N.C. - It's definitely not "never on Sunday" for freshman pitcher Joe Kaye and the Dukes' offensive attack. For the second Sunday in a row, the Dukes put up enough early runs (13 in the first 4 frames), to give Kaye a win, his second of the season, as Duquesne stopped Charlotte, 13-9, in Sunday's series finale at Phillips Field. Kaye is now 2-0.
Junior Steve Maiolo paced the offensive attack with four hits and three RBI in six at-bats. Freshman Bill Torre was on the mark again, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and one run scored. The South Park, Pa. native went 10-for-13 this weekend against the future Atlantic 10 foe.
Three Dukes registered two hits each: senior Mike Grecco, freshman Patrick Kimutis and junior Mike Duganich. The Red and Blue outhit the 49ers 17-10 as DU raised its season record to 3-6; Charlotte is now 13-4.
The Dukes return to Pittsburgh first with a city rivalry game at the Pittsburgh Panthers on Wed., March 16th at 3:00 p.m. Then Duquesne looks to finally get its home opener in (DU's first two home games fell victim to the weather this past week) when La Salle visits DU for another three-game weekend series, this time at Duquesne Field in Green Tree starting with a noon doubleheader on Sat. March 19.
