Two Dukes Named Academic All-America

Feb. 18, 2005

REVISED
Duquesne University's Nicole Sinclair (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) has been named a 2005 ESPN The Magazine (formally CoSIDA) First Team District 2 Women's Basketball Academic All-America honoree while fellow junior Aiga Bautre (Riga, Latvia/Catholic Central - NY) was selected as a Second Team selection. It is Sinclair's second District 2 Academic All-America honor as she was tabbed a second team selection last season. Bautre earns her first citation. They are two of just 19 Division I student-athletes from Pennsylvania, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey and West Virginia to be selected. A five-way tie upped the Second Team to nine members from its original release of five from Feb. 17 and now includes the Dukes' Bautre.

Sinclair is one of five first team selections and will now appear on the national ballot. The Division I national team is scheduled to be released on March 3.

The junior 6-0 forward boasts a 3.82 cumulative GPA in biology and is a member of the Dean's List, Director of Athletics' and A-10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls.

To be eligible for the Academic All-America award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore at their institution, be a starter or important reserve and have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.00 scale). The district teams are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Academic All-America women's basketball teams are the sixth of 12 that will be selected this academic year.
