DUKES SHARE A-10 TITLE

Charlotte, N.C. - Duquesne's men's soccer team again finished in first place in the Atlantic 10 for the third straight season following the completion of the regular season schedule. Duquesne tied with Saint Louis and Rhode Island and will be the second seed in next week's Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.

The Dukes dropped their regular season finale to Charlotte by a 1-0 mark at Transamerica Field. The 49ers, who needed the win to remain in the hunt for a slot in the A-10 tourney, finished the season 4-1-2 on their home turf. Charlotte (6-7-4, 3-2-4) is the fifth seed in the tournament.

Duquesne, ranked nationally at no. 14 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's poll, is now 13-4-0, 7-2-0 in the A-10. Coach Wade Jean's squad won at least a share of the Atlantic 10 regular season title for the third year in row, winning outright in 2004.

This is the third 2005-06 conference championship for Duquesne sports. DU's football team won their seventh straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League crown with Saturday's win over La Salle. And the men's cross country team won their first Atlantic 10 title at the Conference championship race on October 29, 2005.

The Niners put the only marker on the scoreboard on Floyd Franks' goal at 27:11 of the first half. The Dukes led in shots 11-7. Charlotte goalkeeper Tim Seibert recorded five saves while junior Zach Varga had two saves for the Dukes.

Saint Louis, which will host the men's soocer tournament, is the number one seed. The Billikens and the Dukes have first round byes.

Number 3 Rhode Island will face sixth seed Massachusetts and #4 Dayton will take on Charlotte in the quarterfinals on Thursday, November 10, 2005 in Missouri. Duquesne will play the higher seed of Thursday's winners in Friday's semifinals. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, November 13, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. EST.
