The Coaches: Dan Durkin is in his 13th season at the helm of the Duquesne women's basketball program and as a head coach. He posts a 158-182 career mark. Durkin is a 1975 graduate of Mount St. Mary's. Agnus Berenato is in her fourth year with the Panthers and the 22nd as a head coach. She is 23-36 with Pitt and holds an overall career mark of 306-300. She is a 1980 graduate of Mount St. Mary's.
The Series: Today marks the 24th meeting between Duquesne and Pittsburgh. Duquesne has won the past five meetings, but the Panthers own a 15-8 lead in the all-time series. The Dukes have won eight of the last 10 meetings as Coach Durkin is the only Duquesne coach to have defeated the crosstown rival. DU is 4-4 when hosting the Panthers and 4-11 on the road, including a 2-2 mark on neutral grounds. The last Pitt victory was a 62-57 overtime win Jan. 1, 2000 in Oakland. The City Game series has been a long standing local tradition between the two schools.
Noting the Dukes: Duquesne split a pair of contests at the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament falling to Oakland and defeating Bradley in the consolation game ... the Dukes stand 2-2 overall and are 1-1 on the road ... two Dukes average double figure scoring in Aiga Bautre (17.8) and Loui Hall (10.3) ... Duquesne has hit at least one three point goal in the past 126 games ... Aiga Bautre was named to the Miami All-Tournament team after hitting 17 points vs. Oakland and 21 points vs. Bradley ... Nicole Sinclair posted her first double-digit rebound game hauling down 10 in the loss to Oakland ... the Dukes' 32 made three pointers leads the A-10 ... Duquesne was picked ninth in the A-10 pre-season Coaches/Media poll.
At Look at Pitt: The Panthers enter the contest 4-1 overall and opened the season 4-0 with wins over William & Mary, Vermont, Akron and Towson ... their only loss was to Missouri in the championship game of the Pitt Thanksgiving Classic ... three players average double figure scoring in Marcedes Walker (18.8); Mallorie Winn (13.2) and Xenia Stewart (12.2) ... seven of Pitt's 11 student-athletes are underclassmen as they sport four freshmen and three sophomores ...
