The Series:
Today marks just the second meeting between Duquesne and East Carolina. They met for the first time last season in Greenville with the Pirates taking a 65-51 victory.
Noting the Dukes:
The Dukes lost just two players to graduation in center Erin Wehrle (1.7 ppg/1.4 rpg) and Alyssa Borasky (0.8 ppg) ... DU's depth will once again be in the inside game with returning veterans Maria Stankevich at the center spot and starting forwards Nicole Sinclair and Loui Hall ... they will be backed by sophomore forward/post Jade Singleton (2.2 ppg) ... the Dukes will also have a solid back court with the return of senior veteran guard and three-point threat Aiga Bautre as well as junior Brittany Warren and sophomore Jocelyn Chandler (3.3 ppg) ... the Dukes welcome four newcomers to the playing ranks in juniors Carmen Bruce and Marisa Smith who sat out last year in compliance with NCAA Division I transfer rules ... Bruce averaged 6.7 ppg in 2004 at Georgetown while Smith averaged 0.8 ppg as a back-up at Bowling Green ... they are joined by 2005 junior college transfer Malgorzata Flaga (9.6 ppg, 3.0 apg) and freshman Kristi Little (19.1 ppg, 4.5 rpg) who will be looked upon to secure the point ... Sinclair returns as one of the league's best rebounders ranking fourth overall (8.5), second in offensive (3.54) and seventh in defensive boards (5.00) ... she is the top returning A-10 player with her 3.54 offensive boards per game ... Duquesne and George Washington are the only teams that posted two student-athletes each in the top 10 scoring standings in Aiga Bautre (15.2) and Loui Hall (13.5) ... Maria Stankevich led the Red & Blue and ranked sixth in the league with her 1.11 blocks per game.
At Look at ECU
The Pirates graduated five players last season and welcome six freshmen this year, making them one of the youngest programs around ... East Carolina went 10-18 overall and was 6-8 in Conference USA action ... ECU is seven wins shy of reaching the reaching 500 victories in the program's history ... they were picked to finish 12th in the C-USA Pre-Season poll ... LaToya Horton and Cherie Mills were named to the Conference's "Players to Watch" list.
