The Duquesne University women's basketball team will be volunteering its services at the second annual Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Pittsburgh Fashionable Yours fashion show and luncheon this Sunday, September 19, at the Hilton Pittsburgh.
The student-athletes will be selling Chinese Auction and Grand Prize raffle tickets throughout the event as well as assisting where needed to help the gala's success. Local celebrities will serve as models along with Ronald McDonald House children and, of course, Ronald McDonald himself.
"Anytime you're connected with a Ronald McDonald House event, it is always done with class and is extremely worthy," said Head Coach Dan Durkin. "We were fortunate enough a number of years ago to be involved with the same organization with a North Carolina event. Now we are pleased that Duquesne University and our women's basketball team can do something in the Pittsburgh area for this great cause."
The Pittsburgh Ronald McDonald House provides a "home away from home for the families of seriously ill children receiving medical treatment at area hospitals". The Pittsburgh Ronald McDonald house offers families private bedrooms, kitchen and laundry facilities, playrooms and the support needed from staff, volunteers and other families. Proceeds from the event will enable RMHC to continue to provide free or significantly reduced lodging for families staying in the Pittsburgh area during their child's treatment.
Duquesne women's basketball prides itself in being an integral part of the Pittsburgh and Allegheny County communities serving as role models, mentors and friends. Throughout the year, the student-athletes and coaches participate in numerous activities such as socials, clinics, reading events and fundraisers. Duquesne annually promotes a Coaches vs. Cancer women's basketball game where proceeds from all tickets sold are donated to the local American Cancer Society.
