Duquesne University Director of Athletics Brian Colleary announced on Friday, May 21 that women's head basketball coach Dan Durkin has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with the Dukes through the 2006-07 season.

"Dan has worked hard to build the women's program here at Duquesne," said Colleary. "He has done it the right way by recruiting student-athletes that excel both on the court and in the classroom. The program has made great strides under Dan and I look for it to continue to improve."

Durkin, whose teams have averaged 15 wins over the last four seasons, led Duquesne to a school record-tying 10 victories in Atlantic 10 Conference play in 2003-04. He has guided the Dukes to 146 wins in his 11 seasons as head coach.

Durkin, who ranks fourth among Atlantic 10 women's head coaches in experience, will begin next season seventh on the Atlantic 10 regular season all-time wins list with 80.
