Dukes Split Home Doubleheader With Dayton

Dayton, Ohio - Duquesne's baseball team gained a split of Saturday's doubleheader over Dayton, winning the nightcap, 4-3, after droppping the opener by a 9-2 scoreat Duquesne Field in Green Tree.

Sophomore Steve Maiolo's (Pittsburgh, PA / Mt. Lebanon) single in the bottom of the sixth drove in senior Pete Maropis (Export, PA / Franklin Regional) for the 4-3 lead. Maropis, who hit one of his three doubles during the twinbill in that frame, was 4-for-7 on the afternoon. Senior Dan Schwartzbauer (Glenshaw, PA / Shaler) was 3-for-6 with two runs scored along with a walk. Junior Bob Reifschneider (Lower Burrell, PA / Burrell) (3-5) pitched a complete game for the win.

In the opener, Dayton broke a 2-2 tie in the top of fifth, scoring four unearned runs to jump ahead 6-2 on the way to their win. Sophomore Adam Haun (2-5) (Polk, PA / Franklin) was charged with the loss.

The Dukes are 14-21 and 6-8 in the Atlantic 10 while UD is 19-22 overall, 7-10 in league play. The two teams close out the weekend series at noon, Sunday,
May 2, 2004.
