Dukes Chopped Down by Colonials, 4-1

The Duquesne University baseball team lost the opening game of its three game series with visiting George Washington, 4-1 Friday afternoon. The Dukes fall to 18-26 overall and 9-10 in the Atlantic 10 while the Colonials improve to 39-14, 20-3.

Afer three scoreless innings, GW lit the scoreboard first with a run in the fourth, before taking a 3-0 advantage in the top of the seventh. The Dukes cut the lead to two in the bottom of the eighth as Luke Taggart singled in Dan Schwartzbauer, but the Red and Blue left two men on base to end a threat. The Colonials added an insurance run in the ninth for the final score. The Dukes managed just seven hits in the game led by Taggart and Jonathan Kelly with two each.

The Dukes and Colonials will close out their series tomorrow, Saturday, May 15 in a noon double-header.
