Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Duquesne University baseball team dropped its annual PNC Park matchup with the University of Pittsburgh Wednesday afternoon by a 5-1 score. Both teams were held to seven hits. But six of UP's hits were provided by two players (Tom Cashman and Jim Negrych) who also accounted for four RBI and four runs scored.
The Panthers broke out with five unanswered runs through the sixth inning before Duquesne was able to put a run on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth when redshirt freshman Joe Berletic's (Jefferson Hills, PA / Thomas Jefferson) single drove in sophomore Steve Maiolo (Pittsburgh, PA / Mt. Lebanon). Senior Jesse Cramer (Belle Vernon, PA / Belle Vernon) was charged with his third loss of the season. Pitt's Mike Bassage recorded his fourth win of the season.
The Dukes (18-25, 9-9 A-10) complete the regular season this weekend when they will host George Washington (37-14, 18-3) for a three-game league series beginning Friday, May 14th at 4:00 p.m. at Duquesne Field in Green Tree.
