Box Score

Frederick, Maryland - Duquesne University's baseball team was defeated by the ACC's Maryland Terps by a 10-4 score Tuesday afternoon at Frederick's Harry Grove Stadium, home of the Baltimore Orioles' Class A team, the Frederick Keys.

Senior Andy Gallina (Mt. Lebanon, PA / Central Catholic) hit a two-run home run, his seventh this season which ties classmate Pete Maropis for the team high. Fellow senior Dan Schwartzbauer (Glenshaw, PA / Shaler) went 2-for-4 including a triple which drove in the Dukes' final run.

Maryland took a 4-0 lead in the first, extending it to 6-0 in the third before the Dukes got on the scoreboard with three runs, two unearned, in the top of the fifth on Gallina's round tripper and freshman Alex Sharick's (Lower Burrell, PA / Burrell) sacrifice fly. The Terps came back with two more in the bottom of the frame to get the lead back to 8-3 then added two in seventh for a 10-3 spead. Schwartzbauer's triple drove in Randy Vulakovich (Glenshaw, PA / Shaler) for DU's final tally in the eighth.

Sophomore Travis Rife suffered his second loss of the season. Relief picher Seth Overbey picked up his first win. In an interesting twist, UM's Anthony Buffone played every position, moving to a different slot with each succeeding inning.

The Dukes return to Pittsburgh for their annual matchup with Pitt at the Pittsburgh Pirates' PNC Park tomorrow, Wednesday, May 12th at 1:00 p.m.
