Akron Game Halted With Dukes Up 3-0

April 21, 2004

Akron, Ohio - Wednesday's Duquesne baseball game at Akron was halted in the bottom of the fourth inning due to heavy rain in northern Ohio.

The non-conference contest played at Lee Jackson Field was stopped with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Dukes leading 3-0. After a 30-minute delay, the game was called at 4:45 p.m. (ET). This is the seventh DU game that hasn't counted because of weather this season.

Redshirt freshman Joe Berletic (Jefferson Hills, PA / Thomas Jefferson) helped the Dukes jump out to 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning off UA starter Kevin Ricciuti with a two-run single. A Ricciuti throwing error led to another run. Senior Dan Schwartzbauer (Glenshaw, PA / Shaler) was 2-for-3. Duquesne's sophomore starter Travis Rife (York, PA / Dallastown) allowed just one hit in the game.

The game will not be continued nor will the game statistics count in either team's season totals.

The Dukes (12-16, 3-6 A-10) head to Richmond, Va. for a three-game weekend Atlantic 10 series with the Spiders (18-16, 6-3 A-10) beginning with a doubleheader at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 24, 2004.
