Dukes Drop Opener At Nationally-Ranked South Carolina

Feb. 28, 2004

Box Score

Columbia, S.C - Duquesne University's baseball team finally got to play their season opener Saturday afternoon against the #6 South Carolina Gamecocks in the second game of the 2004 Gamecook Round Robin at Sarge Frye Field. The Dukes were topped 20-2.

USC pitchers held the Dukes to four hits with sophomore Adam Haun (Polk, PA / Franklin) hitting his first career home run. Haun, who was starting as DU's designated hitter, last season was one of the Coach Mike Wilson's starting pitchers and had a 5-4 record with a 3.84 ERA.

This game was originally scheduled for Friday, Feb. 27 but was postponed since the team was unable to get into Columbia until Friday morning because of the snow storm in the Carolinas.

The Dukes will take on George Mason (4-0) at 7:00 p.m. Saturday and then will complete the tourney on Sunday, Feb. 29th against Radford (0-4) at noon.
