The Duquesne University baseball team is scheduled to open its 2004 campaign tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 27 as they travel to sixth-ranked South Carolina for a 3:00 pm game. The Dukes will stay in Columbia to face George Mason at noon on Saturday and Radford at noon on Sunday. Junior Bob Reifschneider (6-5 in 2003) is the opening day starting pitcher followed by sophomore Adam Haun (5-4) on Saturday and sophomore Scott Chisholm (2-1) on Sunday.
Under the guidance of 11th-year head coach Mike Wilson, the Red and Blue look to make a return trip to the Atlantic 10 Championship after earning the program's first ever tournament berth last season. Duquesne will field one of its most experienced teams in years as the Dukes return six position starters and boast eight seniors, five of which are fifth-year players.
The team's top offensive threats include seniors Andy Gallina (10 HR, 51 RBI), Pete Maropis (.308 average) and Dan Schwartzbauer (46 runs, 25 SB).
