Ryan Tolan & Greg Gattuso honored by MAAC Football League

Nov. 23, 2004

EDISON, NJ - Duquesne University senior defensive end Ryan Tolan (La Verne, Calif./Bonita) and head coach Greg Gattuso earned individual honors and a total of 20 Dukes were named First or Second Team All-MAAC in a vote of league coaches released today.

Tolan, who set a school record with 12.5 sacks this season, was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, while Gattuso was named the league's Anaconda Sports/MAAC co-Coach of the Year along with Marist's Jim Parady. It marks the seventh time Gattuso, who has guided the Dukes to 33 consecutive league wins, has been named MAAC Coach of the Year.

Quarterback Niel Loebig headlined a group of 17 players named to the All-MAAC First Team. Loebig, who finished his career with 10,254 yards passing and 103 TD passes, is the first Duquesne player to earn first team all-league honors four times.

Joining Loebig on the first team are receiver Michel Warfield, offensive linemen Matt Bovich, Mike Daniluk, Robert Healy, Josh Martin and Brad Salvatore along with kicker John Harris. On the defensive side of the ball, linemen Josh Antinopolous, Antoine Bullock and Tolan along with linebackers Javonn Bradley & Harry Carter, defensive backs Todd Mills, Kyle Postell and Armar Watson plus kicker David Kovalcik were honored.

Three players were to the All-MAAC Second Team including running back Jeremy McCullough, tight end Calvin Gitter and defensive back Michael Ford.

Duquesne (7-3) went 4-0-0 in winning its sixth consecutive MAAC title in 2004. In the process the Dukes, who have won eight of the last 10 league crowns, extended their nation's-longest conference win streak to 33 games.
