Duquesne Announces Women's Hoops Schedule

Sept. 18, 2003

The Duquesne women's basketball team will face seven post-season squads over the span of the 2003-04 schedule which was released today. Highlighting the slate are home bouts with A-10 and NCAA participants Xavier and George Washington as well as a road contest at #15 Vanderbilt. Four WNIT teams dot the schedule in Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Siena and Toledo.

Eleventh-year Head Coach Dan Durkin faces one of the most demanding and solid non-conference schedules over his tenure taking on schools from the Southeastern, Big East, Mid-American and Colonial Athletic Conferences. Of the 12 teams, six posted at least 15 wins last season led by Siena (25-8), Vanderbilt (22-10) and Toledo (20-10).

The schedule tips-off Nov. 21 at Lehigh followed by a home game with local rival Robert Morris Nov. 23. The Dukes then take to the road to face Toledo Nov. 25 before a trip to the West Coast for the University of San Francisco Tournament Nov. 28-29 with Kentucky, Davidson and the host Dons. In all, the Red & Blue will face five opponents over a nine-day stretch to start the season.

Duquesne heads up Forbes Avenue to face crosstown rival Pitt Dec. 3 before traveling to Nashville to meet the SEC's Vanderbilt, which advanced to the second round of the 2003 NCAA tournament, on Dec. 6. A trip to James Madison Dec. 30 concludes the year after a break for finals.

A road game at Saint Joseph's Jan. 4 starts the Atlantic 10 season with the home portion beginning Jan. 9 vs. Dayton. DU ends its regular season strong hosting George Washington and Richmond Feb. 22 and 26 respectively. The Atlantic 10 Championship will take place Mar. 5-8 in Philadelphia at Saint Joseph's Alumni Field House.

The Dukes will appear on national TV once this season as they host NCAA participant Xavier Jan. 11 at the Palumbo Center.

Season and individual game tickets can be reserved by calling the Duquesne University Box Office at 412-232-DUKE (3853).
