Coach Durkin Adds Fourth Recruit for 2003-04 Season

July 2, 2003

Duquesne University's head women's basketball coach Dan Durkin has announced the addition of Krystle Jim (Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho/Garden City CC). She is the Dukes' fourth commitment for the 2003-04 season.

A 5-7 guard, Jim averaged 7.4 points, 4.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game last season for Garden City Community College in Kansas. She helped lead the Lady Broncbusters to the 2003 Jayhawk West 2003 Championship crown going 31-7 overall, 13-3 in league play. She ranked 17th nationally in the NJCAA women's Division I in both assists and steals and set a new Garden City record for steals in a game with 10. Jim was lauded as a first team All-Region 6 tournament pick and as a third team all-conference selection.

Garden City, which received votes in the NJCAA Division I women's basketball poll, defeated two ranked teams to capture the Region 6 title and two other nationally ranked squads to open the Junior College National Tournament.

As a prep, Jim helped lead her Rio Rancho squad in New Mexico to a 73-30 record over her four years and helped capture two District 1-AAAAA championships. She was a four-time all-district honoree, an all-state selection and a member of the North-South All-Star team. Jim graduated as the school's all-time leader in assists and steals and was second in rebounding and points.

"Krystle had a great junior college career. We had an opportunity to see her at the National Championships for the Division I JUCO's and she played great. Her coach Bobby Brasel at Garden City CC ran some great stuff and Krystle really showed some things we really liked", said Coach Durkin.

He adds, "Krystle is originally from New Mexico, so I called some coaches I knew from that area and they had great things to say about her. She is a real steady player with great court vision and, most importantly, takes care of the ball. She has an attitude of 'I'll do whatever you want coach to help the team', so you know she is a team player. Krystle is also an excellent student and was very impressed with Dennis Woytek from our Multimedia Department and would like to pursue this as a major. She loved Pittsburgh, Duquesne, the players and staff she met, so it is a great fit. Michigan, USC, Baylor, Providence, Tulsa and UAB were schools involved with recruiting her. We feel lucky to get Krystle at such a late date. She will round out our guard spot and give us more depth in our junior class with Erin Wehrle and Alyssa Borasky, our other junior college singee."

Jim joins Takneekia Baker, Loui Hall and Alyssa Borasky in the 2003-04 recruiting class.
