Four Dukes Named Verizon Academic All-District

Four Duquesne University baseball players have been named to the Verizon Academic All-District 2 Baseball Team. Seniors Brian Frey (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny), John Rieg (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) and Sean Wilson (Fox Chapel, PA/Fox Chapel) were each named to the first team while sophomore Bob Reifschneider (Lower Burrell, PA/Burrell) was named to the second team. Duquesne has more student-athletes named to the two teams than any other school and also has the most named to the first team.

Frey boasts a 3.96 cumulative grade point average as a management major. He has played in 23 games at catcher for the Dukes and has made 17 starts. He has 10 hits, eight RBI and has scored eight runs for Duquesne.

Rieg, the Dukes third baseman, currently holds a 3.78 GPA in elementary/special education. He is second on the team with 36 RBI, third with 12 stolen bases and fifth with a .298 batting average. Rieg was also named to the Verizon All District 2 Team last season.

Wilson, Duquesne's designated hitter, leads the team in walks and is second in batting average at .361. In addition, he is third in RBI with 30 and is fourth in doubles with seven. Wilson is an elementary education major with a 3.62 GPA.

Reifschneider leads the Duquesne pitching staff with a 6-4 record and is second on the squad with a 3.97 ERA. He is the team leader in innings pitched with 70 1/3 and is second in strikeouts with 47. Reifschenider holds a 3.58 GPA in information technology.

The Dukes are currently 24-25 overall and 14-7 in Atlantic 10 play. They sit in second place in the Atlantic 10 West division and have already clinched a berth in the Atlantic 10 Championship. Duquesne hosts 13th ranked Richmond on Saturday and Sunday at noon at Duquesne Field in Green Tree Borough.

To be nominated for this award, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve player and carry at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA. District 2 encompasses schools from the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
