URI And DU Game Restarts At 7:10 PM

May 16, 2003

Norwich, Connecticut - Duquesne and Rhode Island are resuming their Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship Tournament consolation bracket game at 7:10 p.m. Friday with the score tied 2-2 in the top of the eighth and pinch runner Steve Maiolo on first base. Maiolo replaced Pete Maropis who had singled in John Rieg with the tying run. There are no outs as Sean Wilson takes the plate.

Down by one run to Rhode Island after seven innings, Duquesne's baseball team opened the eighth inning with two hits to tie the game at 2-2 before the lights at Dodd Stadium went completely out, forcing a stop to the game as midnight was approaching.

Scott Chisholm (2-0) is scheduled to take the mound in the bottom of the frame, relieving starter Adam Haun who had limited the Rams to two run through seven innings.

In earlier action, Xavier (#5) upset number one seed Richmond 2-1. Jarret Sues, who had picked up the Musketeers 6-3 win over the Dukes in 1 1/3 innings of relief pitching, came into Friday's first game in the second when starter Greg Wiggers was unable to return to the mound because of an injury. The senior pitched eight innings giving up just one unearned run for his second win of the tournament. In the second game of the day, Massachusetts (#2) topped George Washington 3-1.

The winner of this DU/URI game will GW later Friday night.
