Dayton, Ohio - Duquesne University's baseball team completed a sweep of the Dayton Flyers this weekend with a 19-5 victory Sunday afternoon at UD's Stuart Field. The Dukes are now 12-6 in the Atlantic 10, 21-22 overall, and with Xavier's extra inning loss to Richmond, move back into second place in the West Division.

Seniors Andy Gallina (Mt. Lebanon, PA / Central Catholic) and John Rieg (Lansdale, PA / Lansdale Catholic) belted two and three-run bombs, respectively. Rieg drove in a team-best five runs and junior Dan Schwartzbauer (Glenshaw, PA / Shaler) added four RBI as the Red and Blue pounded out 18 hits to give them a total of 38 on the weekend.

Junior Jesse Cramer went five innings for his first victory of the season.

The Flyers rode the emotional beginning of their senior day ceremonies to an early 1-0 lead. However, from then on it was all Duquesne as the Dukes scored 15 unanswered runs in two innings, including an 11-run fourth which made the lead almost impossible to overcome.

Dayton saw their season record drop to 12-31, 1-17 in league play.

This weekend sweep increases Duquesne's chances to make the A-10 Championship tournament in which the top six teams will head to Norwich, Connecticut for the double elimination event starting Thursday, May 15th. But before then, the Dukes have a challenging schedule which includes contests with Big East regional foes West Virginia and Pittsburgh and weekend series with West Division contenders Xavier and Richmond, both at Duquesne Field in Green Tree.

The Red and Blue's next game is against the Mountaineers on Wednesday, April 30th at 7 p.m. in Morgantown, WV. The contest versus the Panthers is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at PNC Park.

Note: This was the last game at Stuart Field. Before next season, a new baseball field will be built near UD Arena. The Stuart Field site will be used for new buildings in the heart of Dayton's campus.
