Dukes Top Xavier 75-69 In Overtime

Pittsburgh, PA - Duquesne's women's basketball team grabbed a 76-69 overtime win over Xavier Sunday afternoon at the Palumbo Center. The win raised the Red and Blue's record to 14-11, 7-7 in A10 play while Xavier is now 18-8, 10-5 in league competition.

The Dukes were led by junior Candace Futrell's 24 points along with senior Beth Friday's 48th career double double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Nicole Sinclair pulled down 12 rebounds and junior Shiri Sharon dished out 11 assists. XU was led by freshman Tara Boothe's 25 points.

Duquesne and Xavier went head-to-head for two halves only to see the score tied at 60-60 as the buzzer sounded the end of regulation. The Dukes scored eight straight points in the first two minutes of overtime to grab a 68-60 lead. Following an Xavier timeout, the Musketeers rallied back to bring the margin as close as 72-69 on two free throws by Boothe. But Duquesne was not to be undone as Futrell and Friday combined for three points from the charity stripe down the stretch to seal the win.

Duquesne closes out the 2003 home season hosting West Division leader George Washington (19-6, 13-1) this Thursday, Feb. 27th. The Senior Night game begins at 7:05 pm.
