DU Loses Get-Away Game At South Carolina, 9-0

Columbia, South Carolina - Duquesne's baseball team dropped its third straight game of their opening series to seventh-ranked South Carolina 9-0 at Sarge Frye Field Sunday afternoon. USC pitchers held the Dukes to just two hits on the afternoon.

Junior Dan Schwartzbauer and freshman Steve Maiolo each hit a single as the Dukes are now 0-3 in the pre-spring season. Freshman pitcher Adam Haun was tagged for four runs in 4 1/3 innings for the loss. The Dukes, who had committed four errors in each of the two previous games, limited their miscues to one on Sunday.

Next up for the Red and Blue is their spring trip for 10 games in Bradenton, Florida, the spring baseball home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The first match is at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2003 against Assumption College (MA). And this year, the Dukes will meet a team from the Pirates camp on Wednesday, March 5, at 10:00 a.m. Ther other teams on the schedule are Boston College, Harvard, Holy Cross, St. Bonaventure, St. Francis (NY) and Valparaiso.
