Philadelphia, Pa. - Duquesne University men's soccer team grabbed a 1-0 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over La Salle Sunday, October 05, 2003 at McCarthy Stadium on the Explorers' campus. Sophomore Pat Dillon scored his first career goal to give the Dukes their second league win. Freshman Zach Varga recorded his fourth straight shutout and sixth blanker on the season.

Dillon scored the winning goal off fellow soph Scott Gibson's indirect hit at 36:20 of the opening stanza. La Salle's Kevin Coleman got the first touch but couldn't control the ball enabling Dillon, a Philadelphia-area native, to hit the back of the net.

La Salle's goalie Stash Graham recorded three saves in the game.

Varga, who has given up just four goals in the Dukes' nine games, lowered his league-leading goals against average (GAA) to 0.46. Duquesne entered the week with a team GAA of 0.55, good for 11th place nationally in Division I.

Duquesne, ranked number 5 in the latest NSCAA Middle Atlantic Region poll, is now 2-0 in A-10 play and 7-1-1 overall. The Explorers fell to 3-4-3 on the season and 1-1 in the the conference.
