Duquesne women's volleyball (10-13) captured a 3-1 victory over visiting St. Francis (8-14) in non-conference action Friday night at the Palumbo Center. Sarah Morrow (Baytown, Texas/Robert E. Lee) and Stephanie Hopkins (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) led the Red & Blue with 11 kills and 11 digs each. Morrow recorded her 1,000 career dig in the contest making her just the fourth volleyball player at Duquesne to record both 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.

Avery Dunn (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) led the offense with 30 assists while Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio/St. Henry) posted a career-best five service aces. Nichole Hyer led the Red Flash with 14 kills.

Duquesne overcame a 7-1 deficit in game one and took a 17-11 lead that would not be challenged. Amanda Haeg helped secure the win with three straight kills for a 27-18 lead and record the game-winning kill for the 30-19 edge.

St. Francis held an early 6-2 lead in game two before the Dukes tied the contest 11-11 with two kills from Ashley Macko and one from Monica Tinsley. The contest saw two more ties before SFU went ahead 23-17. The Dukes closed the gap to within a 20-23 reach, but the Red Flash out-scored the Dukes 5-1 for a 28-20 cushion. Duquesne then took advantage of four St. Francis errors, two Macko kills and a Wuebker ace to tie the contest 28-28. The game would be tied at 29, 30 and 31 before a Duquesne hitting error and St. Francis block gave the visitor a 33-31 edge.

The Dukes bounced back in game three grabbing a 7-3 lead early on and would not led the Red Flash closer than a five-point reach with the last being 21-25. Wuebker closed out the contest with two aces and a kill while SFU recorded two errors for a 30-21 edge.

A solid fourth game belonged to the Dukes from the get-go as the opened with a 6-0 edge they would extend to a 13-2 margin. Duquesne rattled off eight straight points mid-way through for a 22-4 edge, but St. Francis answered back, but would not get closer than a 12-22 reach of the lead. Dukes took the fourth and deciding game 30-16.

Duquesne resumes Atlantic 10 play on Saturday as the Dukes host George Washington at 7:00 pm at the Palumbo Center.
