DU Signs Fourth Recruit To National Letter Of Intent

May 10, 2002

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University's head women's basketball coach Dan Durkin has announced the signing of Omega Harrington (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2002-03 season. She is the fourth signing for the Dukes for the up-coming season.

Harrington, a 5-7 guard, averaged 13.3 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds this past season. She helped lead her North Central squad to a 16-5 overall record and to the 2002 IHSAA sectional tournament. Harrington's squad captured the 2001 sectional crown and the 2002 North Central Holiday Tournament title.

"We are extremely happy to announce Omega has signed on with the Dukes", says Coach Durkin. "She comes from a great teaching staff at North Central. I've known her high school coach, Alan Vickery, for a long time and in his eyes, she is a 'developing gem'. Omega can play both point and No. 2 guard. She loves to play defense, has good speed and excellent court awareness."

She has played AAU basketball for "The Family", which won the 1999 state championship. They also competed in the National Competition in Oklahoma City, Las Vegas and at the Disney Sport Complex.

"Omega also played for a well established AAU program and has played against great competition during the school year and summer months. She is an excellent student and will be a great addition to our University as a person as well as a student-athlete."

Harrington is looking to major in pre-law.

She joins Kristin Kalervo, Nicole Sinclair and Aiga Bautre who also signed National Letters of Intent for the 2002-03 season.
