Duquesne University junior baseball player John Rieg has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District 2 Baseball Team. Rieg, the Dukes first baseman, currently holds a 3.75 cumulative grade point average in Elementary/Special Education.

The Lansdale (PA) Catholic High School alum batted .315 for the Red and Blue this season with four home runs and 26 RBI. He was fourth on the squad with nine doubles and also fourth with 10 stolen bases. He ended the season with a .969 fielding average in 334 chances, almost three times the opportunities of the next most active fielder.

The Dukes finished the 2002 campaign with a 26-23 overall record under ninth-year head coach Mike Wilson, setting the school record for wins in a season.
