Duquesne's men's soccer team ended the regular season with a 3-2 win over visiting St. Bonaventure Saturday night on Rooney Field. The win gives the Dukes an overall record of 12-2-5 and an Atlantic 10 record of 7-1-3. The Dukes finished the season with three straight wins and posted a 7-0-2 home record.
The Bonnies struck first early in the first half, but senior James Tarone (Rockville, MD / Thomas Wooton) scored in the 34th minute to send the game to the locker room tied at 1-1. SBU grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 61st minute, but junior Damien Pottinger (Scarborough, Ontario / Mother Teresa) equalled the game with his team-best 16th goal of the season in the 71st minute. It was senior Nathan Salsi's (North Huntingdon, PA / Norwin) penalty kick goal in the 81st minute however, that proved to be the game-winner.
Sophomore Derek Mackenzie (Carnegie, PA / Chartiers Valley) and freshman Pat Dillon (Longhorne, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) assisted on the Dukes first goal and senior Christian Reinecker (Reading, PA / Exeter Twp.) got a point on Pottinger's game-tieing score. The Dukes offense had 13 shots on goal to the Bonnies four.
The Dukes finished the season in second place in the A-10 standings and will face third-seeded and host Richmond (10-6-3, 7-2-2 A-10) on Friday, Nov. 15 in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals at the Spiders' First Market Stadium. Top seed Massachusetts (13-4-2, 9-0-2 A10) will play George Washington (11-8-0, 7-4-0) in the other semi.
