Women's Basketball Inks Local Standout

Nov. 14, 2002

Duquesne University's head women's basketball coach Dan Durkin has announced the signing of Ellen "Loui" Hall (Masontown, Pa./Albert Gallatin) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2003-04 season.

Hall, a 6-0 small forward, averaged 26.4 points and 12.1 rebounds as a junior leading her Albert Gallatin squad to a 19-4 overall mark. She netted 30 or more points in five games last year and shot 81% from the free throw line. Hall helped lead her prep squad to the 2000 and 2001 WPIAL sectional championships and enters her senior season with 1,651 career points. She is looking to better the school's current all-time scoring record of 1,938 point, held by her sister Shauntai, who played at Penn State and Rutgers.

Adds Coach Durkin, "Loui is a great addition for us. I've known the Hall family for years, so we cut through a lot of the red tape early in the process. Loui is a very versatile player with a lot of defensive and offensive strengths. She is a solid citizen and student and just fell in love with the Duquesne campus on her unofficial visit last spring. We couldn't be happier to sign her early. Loui will fit in perfectly with our young team next year. But more importantly, it's great for Duquesne to get a local Fab Five player to stay at home in Pittsburgh."

A three-time all-county and all-section honoree, Hall has grabbed 746 career rebounds was named the Herald Standard's Freshman of the Year. A Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fab Five pick, the second team all-state honoree is also a Street & Smith's honorable mention All-American.

Hall averaged 24.8 points as a sophomore and 13.8 points per game as a freshman.
