Brian Reed enters his 10th season as the Duquesne sprints/hurdles/relays coach in 2024.

Since 2015, his groups have rewritten the Duquesne record books, having set new school records in the 60m, 100m, 200m, 100m hurdles and 4x100m relay on the women’s side, as well as the 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 60m hurdles, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles and 4x100m relay on the men’s side.

Reed has coached two Atlantic 10 Men's Outdoor Most Outstanding Track Performers (2021 and 2022), the 2019 A-10 Women’s Indoor Most Outstanding Field Performer, the 2019 Men’s Outdoor Rookie of the Year and an Atlantic 10 Conference record in the men’s 100m dash in 2022.

During the 2022 outdoor season, Isaac Elliott was named the 2022 A-10 Conference Most Outstanding Track Performer for the second straight year, as he raced his way to a pair of conference championships in the 100m (10.22 seconds) and 200m (20.74 seconds) dash events, while anchoring the 4x100m relay to gold. The Dukes placed first and second in the triple jump with a jump of 15.01m by Logan Williamson and a jump of 14.89m by Cam Mbalo. Earlier in the season, Amberly Valeriano picked up a silver medal in the women’s 60m hurdles at the 2022 A-10 Indoor Championships with a school record time of 8.61 seconds.

In 2021, Elliott earned the 2021 A-10 Outdoor Most Outstanding Track Performer, winning gold in the 100m and 200m, while picking up a bronze medal as part of the 4x100m relay. Triple jumpers Logan Williamson and Cam Mbalo picked up a silver and bronze medal respectively, jumping 15.28m and 14.61m at the A-10 Outdoor Championships.

At the 2021 ECAC/IC4A Championships, the Dukes took two golds on the men’s side, as Isaac Elliott won both the 100m and 200m. Then, Amberly Valeriano struck gold in the women’s ECAC meet, winning the 100m hurdles in 13.69 seconds after leading off the 4x100m relay team which earned a bronze medal.

Since his arrival on the Bluff, Reed’s athletes have captured 13 individual and relay Atlantic 10 championship titles, winning the 100-meters (three times), 200-meters (three times), 500-meters, 400-meter hurdles, 4x100 (twice), long jump and triple jump (twice) with Isaac Elliott, Anna Simone and Ian Welch earning multiple golds. A total of 45 of his Dukes have garnered A-10 medals, including 13 gold medalists, 15 silver medalists and 17 bronze medalists.

Before joining Duquesne, Reed spent the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons as a volunteer assistant at the University of Pittsburgh. where he coached sprints and hurdles. While with the Panthers, he helped mentor athletes to an American record in the 500m, 13 NCAA All-American performances, 10 individual Big East and ACC conference championships, three individual IC4A Championships, an IC4A team championship, nine USA Track & Field national qualifiers and the 2014 Penn Relays Championship of America in the men's 4x400 (3:03.44).

Reed received a B.S in health and physical education in 2006 from Indiana University of PA, received a M.S. in exercise science from California University of PA in 2012 and earned an M.S. in Sports Business from Duquesne in 2020. He has an IAAF Level 5 and USATF Level 3 certification in both the sprints/hurdles/relays and jumping disciplines.
