Anthony Doria, a former record-setting quarterback at Saint Francis U, is in his 15th season with the Duquesne football program in 2025. Entering his 10th season as DU's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Doria spent his first five seasons (2011-'15) leading the quarterbacks.

Doria, who has been on the staff for all of Duquesne's seven Northeast Conference championships and three FCS Playoff appearances, has piloted a Dukes offense to consistently rank among the top in the NEC since taking over the coordinating responsibilities in 2016. The Dukes have had the top passing offense in the league five times under Doria's leadership of the quarterbacks (2013 - 237.0 yards/game, 2014 - 251.2 yd/g, 2015 - 244.8 yd/g, Spring 2021 - 239.0 yd/g and 2023 - 205.5 yd/g). As offensive coordinator, Duquesne has also paced the conference in scoring offense three times (2016 - 31.2 points per game, 2017 - 32.2 ppg, and 2024 - 29.5 ppg), total offense three times (2016 - 429.0 yards per game, Spring 2021 - 408.8 yd/g, 2024 - 383.8 yd/g) and rushing yards once (2017 - 198.5 yards per game).

Doria has coached 56 All-NEC honorees over his 14 seasons, including 28 first-teamers. The DU quarterback room has produced nine all-conference quarterbacks under Doria's leadership, including three Walter Payton Award finalists (Dillon Buechel - 2016, Tommy Stuart - 2017 and Darius Perrantes - 2023). As offensive coordinator, Doria also coached the first NEC Offensive Players of the Year (Tommy Stuart (QB - 2017) and A.J. Hines (RB - 2018)) and NEC Offensive Rookies of the Year (A.J. Hines (RB - 2016), Billy Lucas (RB - Spring 2021), Shawn Solomon, Jr. (RB - 2024)) in program history and has developed five All-American selections (Ben Huss (OL - 2016 and '17), Alex Conley (OL - 2018), A.J. Hines (RB - 2018) and Jake Dixon (OL - Spring 2021)).

All-American running back A.J. Hines, who won the Jerry Rice Award for most outstanding freshman in the FCS in 2016, finished his career as one of the most decorated players in Duquesne history. In his senior season of 2019, Hines became DU's all-time leader in career rushing yards (4,629), rushing touchdowns (44) and total touchdowns (47), the career rushing yards and total touchdowns ranked first in the FCS among active career leaders in 2019.

Quarterback Dillon Buechel, a four-year starter and three-time all-conference selection, finished his career as the leading passer in Northeast Conference history with 10,320 yards and set school records for career passing yards, completions (801) and attempts (1,380).

Doria, who accounted for a Northeast Conference record 8,544 passing yards at SFU from 2003-06, spent two seasons as a graduate assistant wide receivers coach at Akron under head coaches J.D. Brookhart and Rob Ianello before coming to Duquesne.

A native of Pittsburgh, Doria was named to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Terrific 25 and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette South Fabulous 22 after leading Seton-La Salle High School to a 2002 WPIAL AA Championship and an appearance in the PIAA state championship game.

The Pittsburgh Athletic Association AA Player of the Year continued on to Saint Francis where he completed over 55 percent of his passes in throwing for 61 touchdowns in 42 games.

In 2005, Doria was named NEC Offensive Player of the Year. Doria completed his degree in accounting in 2007 before playing one season for the Arena Cup finalist Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers in 2007.

He added a master's degree in sports administration while at Akron.

Doria and his wife Kristen reside in Wexford and have four sons: Luca, Bodie, Micah, and Griffin.

2011 Season (Quarterbacks Coach)

Doria guided the Dukes to an average of 30.4 points per game (2nd in NEC) with the second-most passing touchdowns in the conference (23). Junior quarterback Sean Patterson was named second team All-NEC with 2,011 yards and 23 touchdowns.

2012 Season (Quarterbacks Coach)

Senior quarterback Sean Patterson earned his second straight all-conference selection on the second team with 2,359 yards and 17 touchdowns. The Dukes ranked third in the NEC in passing offense (216.7 yards per game) and tied for second in passing touchdowns with Patterson's 17.

The Dukes had the top passing offense in the league averaging 237.0 yards per game. Freshman quarterback Dillon Buechel began his storied career with a second team all-conference selection, the third straight season Doria coached an all-conference QB to begin his career at Duquesne. Buechel finished the season with 2,569 yards and 14 touchdowns, his 233.5 passing yards per game led the NEC.

2014 Season (Quarterbacks Coach)

For the second straight year, Duquesne led the NEC in passing offense with an average of 251.2 yards per game and a league-best 24 touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Dillon Buechel threw for 2,015 yards and 14 touchdowns, while Ryan Egold added seven TDs and Michael LoPresti threw for three scores.

NEC Champions, NCAA FCS Playoffs

In 2015, Duquesne averaged an NEC-best 244.8 passing yards per game en route to winning the conference championship and earning DU's first-ever NCAA FCS Playoff appearance. It was the third straight season DU had the top passing offense in the NEC. Quarterback Dillon Buechel, who led the NEC in passing yards for the second straight season, set career highs for completions (33), attempts (53), yards (423) and touchdowns (6) in the Dukes' 52-49 opening round loss at No. 13 William & Mary.

2016 Season (Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach)

Duquesne led the NEC in both total offense (429 ypg.) and scoring offense (31.2 ppg.) in his first season as coordinator in 2016. Duquesne, which averaged 260.5 yards per game passing and 168.5 yards per game rushing, led the NEC and ranked 14th nationally in time of possession (32:28). DU ranked 14th nationally in third-down conversion percentage (.453).

2017 Season (Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach)

In 2017, Doria’s offense paced the NEC in scoring at 32.2 points per game, rushing offense (198.5 ypg.), pass efficiency (118.6), red zone offense (89.5 pct.), third-down conversion percentage (47.1 pct.) and fourth-down conversion percentage (66.7 pct.) while ranking second in the league in total offense (421.2 ypg.). Doria coached seven All-NEC performers in 2017, highlighted by the NEC Offensive Player of the Year in quarterback Tommy Stuart and All-American offensive lineman Ben Huss. Stuart set a new single-season program record for completion percentage (66.7 pct.) and 32 total touchdowns. Huss became the first Duquesne player to participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Doria’s offense also produced two more First Team All-NEC selections in Crawford and Hines. Crawford led the FCS with 15 receiving touchdowns, while Hines posted his second consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season to go with 10 touchdowns.

2018 Season (Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach)

Doria coached four All-NEC selections, including NEC Offensive Player of the Year A.J. Hines. Hines closed out a historic 2018 campaign third in the FCS in rushing yards and sixth in rushing touchdowns. Veteran offensive linemen Alex Conley and Matt Fitzpatrick helped pave the way for Hines' 20 100-yard rushing performances. Wide receiver Nehari Crawford graduated as the program's all-time leader in receiving yards and receptions. Quarterback Daniel Parr set a program record for rushing touchdowns for a quarterback with seven in his first season.

2019 Season (Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach)

Five Dukes on the offensive side earned All-NEC accolades, highlighted by running back A.J. Hines. Hines became the program's all-time leading rusher with 4,629 career rushing yards. Also earning All-NEC honors: running back Mark Allen, wide receiver Kellon Taylor, and offensive linemen Sterling Jenkins and Gabe Spurlock.

Spring 2021 Season (Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach)

The Dukes paced the conference in total offense (404 ypg.) and passing offense (239 ypg) as nine offensive players garnered All-NEC honors. Quarterback Joe Mischler earned First Team All-NEC after leading the conference and ranking fifth in the FCS in passing efficiency (159.3). Left tackle Jake Dixon became the fourth player to earn All-America honors for Doria, collecting Second Team laurels from the AFCA.

2021 Season (Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach)

The Dukes featured the No. 3 red zone offense in the FCS, converting 95 percent of their opportunities. Doria's offense ranked second in the NEC in scoring (29.5 ppg.), third in total offense (346 ypg.), second in third-down conversions (44 percent), and led the FCS with only two fumbles lost. Offensive lineman Jake Dixon and wide receiver Cyrus Holder earned First-Team All-NEC nods before signing free agent NFL deals.

2022 Season (Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach)

The Dukes ranked second in the league with 23 passing touchdowns and threw for 2,417 yards as a team. Joe Mischler paced the quarterback room with 1,869 yards (3rd in NEC) and 17 touchdowns (2nd in NEC). Wide receivers Dwayne Menders (first team) and Abdul Janneh (second team) garnered all-conference honors. Running back Billy Lucas was third in the conference with 792 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

2023 Season (Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach)

NEC Champions, NCAA FCS Playoffs

Doria guided the Dukes offense to a league-best 205.5 passing yards per game, second in total offense (354.3 ypg.) and points per game (27.1). First team All-NEC quarterback Darius Perrantes was a Walter Payton Award finalist. Duquesne's offensive unit also saw wide receivers DJ Powell (first team) and Keshawn Brown (second team), freshman running back Edward Robinson (second team), and center Michael Dorundo (second team) earn All-NEC nods.

2024 Season (Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach)

Doria’s offense led the NEC with 383.8 yards per game and tied for the league lead with 29.5 points per game. Senior quarterback Darius Perrantes earned his second-straight First Team All-NEC selection. Perrantes tied the single-season program record with 29 passing touchdowns and set a Rooney Field record with six touchdown passes against Wagner. The offense finished second in the NEC in passing touchdowns (32) and passing yards per game (230.7), ranked second in rushing yards per game (153.1), and tied for the league lead with 42 total touchdowns over 11 games. The Dukes also led the NEC in third down conversions (42.8%) and fourth down conversions (90% - 18-for-20).
