Alexa Gonczi

Alexa Gonczi begins her first season as the diving coach for the Duquesne swimming and diving team in 2025-26.

Gonczi, a native of Monaca, Pa., arrives on the Bluff to launch her coaching career following an exceptional collegiate diving journey. A six-time All-American and four-time NCAA qualifier at PennWest Clarion, she made her mark as one of the program's most decorated athletes. In her junior year with the Golden Eagles, Gonczi became the 60th NCAA champion in Clarion's storied swimming and diving history, claiming the three-meter title at the NCAA Championships. Competing in her first career finals, she delivered a standout performance, finishing with a score of 505.00 across six dives in a competitive field of 21 divers.

"I am thrilled and thankful for the opportunity to become a part of Duquesne's swimming and diving program," Gonczi explained. "I look forward to growing the program and helping the athletes succeed while working alongside Coach Sheets to achieve the overall team goals."

The Pennsylvania native is no stranger to earning accolades, having been named a three-time All-American by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). Her standout performances culminated in being honored as the CSCAA Women's Diver of the Year in 2024. In addition to her athletic achievements, she was recognized twice on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) All-District team and earned a spot on the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Winter Top 10 in 2024.

During her four years at Clarion, Gonczi gained valuable leadership experience as both a coach and camp counselor, managing groups of young teens and leading pool practice sessions. She also collaborated with sports psychology students from UNC Greensboro, where she learned and applied mental performance strategies to support both her teammates and herself. Beyond the pool, Gonczi volunteered at the USA Diving Spring Nationals and the AAU National Diving Championships, while further enhancing her professional development at the 2028 & Beyond Camp.

Gonczi earned her degree in Psychology from PennWest Clarion, complementing her studies with a minor in Sociology.
