Hunter Rock joined Steve Opperman’s staff as an assistant coach in July 2023 and enters his fourth season with the Dukes in 2026.
Over the past three seasons, Rock has played an instrumental role in developing some of Duquesne’s top talent. During that span, he has helped mentor five All-Rookie selections, two All-Conference honorees, and 2023 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year Chloe Wilmot. In 2025, Rock helped guide the Dukes to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament while leading the program to 18 victories, its highest win total since the 2016 season.
A Pittsburgh native, Rock arrived on the Bluff after serving as an assistant coach at William & Mary in 2022. Prior to that, he worked as a graduate assistant for both the men’s and women’s volleyball programs at Augustana College.
Rock was a member of the inaugural men’s volleyball team at Hiram College, where he competed from 2018-21. An Academic All-AMCC selection in 2020, he served as team captain during the 2021 season, helping lead Hiram to the AMCC Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
He began his coaching career in 2020 as an assistant coach with Everest Volleyball Club in Twinsburg, Ohio. Rock also served as an assistant coach for the Stow-Monroe High School boys volleyball program, helping guide the team to a regional finals appearance.
Rock, who attended nearby South Park High School, earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Hiram in 2021, and recently completed his master’s degree in higher education leadership from Western Illinois University.
