John Henderson was named Duquesne’s Associate Athletic Director for sports medicine and performance in August of 2016.
Henderson manages all aspects of student-athlete healthcare and performance for all of DU’s 500 student-athletes, including sports medicine, sports performance, mental health and counseling, nutrition and strength and conditioning. A member of the Duquesne Athletics leadership team, Henderson also serves as sports program administrator for men's basketball, football, bowling and men's and women's tennis as well as serving as the program's NCAA designated Healthcare Administrator and Director of Mental Health and Counseling Services for Duquesne University.
During his tenure with the Dukes, Henderson has maximized healthcare services and physician relations and successfully executed favorable agreements, leading to new revenue generation, fundraising efforts and improved support for student-athletes and programs.
Henderson is actively involved in campus and conference committees, including the University Health and Safety Task Force, the University Student Well-Being Committee, the Atlantic 10 Conference Student-Athlete Health and Welfare Committee, the NEC Medical Advisory Committee, Duquesne Athletics DEI committee and the DU President's committee for staff awards and recognition.
Prior to Duquesne, Henderson led performance and health areas at Weber State University and California State University, Monterey Bay. Henderson began his career in business development as Program Development Coordinator for Mountain Land Physical Therapy and at R.I.T.E.S Incorporated as Director of Brokerage Services.
Henderson is a 2007 graduate of Weber State, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in clinical athletic training. Henderson, who also earned a Master of Science degree in sports conditioning and performance in 2011 from Southern Utah, is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and a certified athletic trainer through the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) board of certification. Henderson also owns certifications from USA Weightlifting, ASTYM, ReBuild and other manual therapies.
Henderson and his wife, Yvette, live in Pittsburgh, Pa., and have two sons, Derek and Marcus, who each graduated from Duquesne University.
