Tarance Rose is in his first season as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Duquesne.
In his current position, he is responsible for developing in implementing comprehensive conditioning programs for both the men's and women's basketball teams.
Rose, a former Division I basketball player, is founder and owner of 3-2-1 Fundamental Basketball Training, a business based on a philosophy that includes an emphasis on unity, personal responsibility, intensity, work ethic and communication skills.
Born in Patterson, N.J., Rose moved south at a young age and became a standout player at West Florence High School in Florence, S.C.
He began his college career at Spartanburg Methodist College under current Dukes assistant Scott Rigot.
As a sophomore, Rose quarterbacked the Pioneers to a 35-2 record and a national runner-up finish at the NJCAA Tournament. He was selected the tournament's Most Outstanding Player at the Regional for a team that sent seven players to Division I schools.
Rose was recruited to Iona by then head coach Tim Welsh, where he was part of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season champion and NIT teams in 1996 and 1997.
He completed his undergraduate degree in business administration in 1998. The 37-year-old Rose taught and coached in both New York and South Carolina before turning to his business full-time.
Among his early trainees are Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and Detroit Pistons guard Ben Gordon.
