Amadou "Pape' Koundoul joined the Duquesne coaching staff in July of 2011.
A native of Dakar, Senegal, Koundoul played collegiately at Cleveland State. He was a member of former DU assistant Greg Gary's staff when Gary was the head coach at Centenary in 2009-10.
The 31-year-old Koundoul spent this past year providing instruction for athletes here in the United States following a brief stint at UC Irvine in the late summer and early fall of 2010.
Koundoul served as an associate director and coach for Branch West Basketball Academy and recruiting service in Southern California before joining the staff at Centenary.
Prior to accepting the position at BWBA, Koundoul worked as a French and physical education instructor as well as a basketball coach at Saint Stanislaus College in Bay St. Louis, Miss.
Koundoul began his career as a graduate assistant and video coordinator on Mike Garland's staff at his alma mater in 2005-06.
In August of 2006, Koundoul served as an associate head coach and physical education teacher at Stoneridge Prep in Simi Valley, California where he helped the team to a No. 9 national ranking.
He moved on to Summit College Prep in Simi Valley in August of 2007 as head coach and partner before working at Saint Stanislaus. His stint at Summit was highlighted by a win over then top-ranked The Patterson (N.C.) School.
Koundoul began his playing career at Vincennes (Ind.) University where he helped the Trailblazers to a 25-2 record in 2000-01. He was part of a conference championship team at Highland Community College (Ill.) in 2001-02 before enrolling at Cleveland State where his finished his playing career in 2004-05. He graduated from CSU in May 2005 with a communication degree.
Koundoul and his wife, Tara, reside in Pittsburgh.
